Gurkha VC 5k Race Details

Race HQ Location – Rugby Stadium, Queens Avenue, Aldershot, GU11 2TD

We started the Gurkha VC 5k in 2024 when a statue was unveiled in Aldershot recognising the gallantry and value Gurkhas bring to the British Army.  A total of 13 Victoria Crosses have been awarded to Gurkhas, the first being to Havildar Kulbir Thapa VC in 1915 who is represented by the statue.  We put an image of the statue on the back on the race medal that year.

No Entries on the day

Pre-registration, race day number collection, t-shirts, and the race day schedule are all the same as for the 10k race.

The 5k race starts at 10.30am on the Polo fields opposite the stadium (same place as Rushmoor parkrun), does 1.5 laps clockwise of the Polo Fields,  turns LEFT on reaching the canal towpath, and finishes in the Rugby Stadium (next to the Athletics Stadium).  Note that the 10k runners will be turning RIGHT on reaching the towpath.

The route is very flat, on the Polo fields and the Basingstoke Canal towpath. It’s ideal for people who’ve been doing parkruns and now want to try a 5k race.

Blackwater Valley Runners has teamed up with GRNC (Greater Rushmoor Nepali Community) to organise this event.

Bespoke Medal to All Finishers – same as the 10k medal with an Aldershot landmark on the back.

Toilets, Free Parking, Chip Timing, Fully marked route and lots happy of marshals.

If affiliated to England Athletics (EA) or the Association of Running Clubs (ARC) you can get a £2 discount on your entry.
