Frequently Asked Questions about the 5k race

The most important information about the 5k can be found here.

Some extra information is covered in frequently asked questions below.

If you still can’t find the answer, please use the Contact Us form to get in touch.

We will not be sending out race packs in advance. Race numbers will be handed out during pre-registration at Aldershot Cricket Club the Wednesday evening before the race and the Saturday morning before the race, and at Registration at the Athletics Stadium on the day of the race.

Yes, you can can collect the race number of another runner at pre-registration only. To facilitate this, please bring a letter signed by the absent runner authorising you to collect on their behalf. It’s essential that every runner gets the race number assigned to them – do not mix them up! (If you do, the results will be wrong!). So if you’re collecting two or more numbers, write the names of the people they are for on the back as you collect them.

Runners must collect their race numbers in person on race day.

Nobody under the age of 16 will be permitted to take part in the 10k race. This is a condition of our Association of Running Clubs race permit, through which we’re insured.  Anyone under 14 on the 5k must be accompanied by an adult.  The fun run is for age 5 and above, but anyone under 9 must be accompanied by an adult.

Dogs are permitted (on a lead) on the Polo Fields, but unfortunately they are not permitted in the Athletics Stadium where the 5k and 10k events finish (except for guide dogs). This is a restriction imposed by the land manager and is out of our control.  There are also some narrow sections on the 5k and 10k so for safety reasons dogs are not permitted on these events. Dogs are allowed on the fun run on the Polo fields (on a short lead!), but not afterwards in the Athletics Stadium.

Unfortunately we are not able to offer refunds on entry fees. If you can’t run then we would prefer that you transfer your race number to another person, as we will still have to pay for your number, medal, etc. See this web page for details on how to do a transfer.  Don’t leave it too late as it may take a couple of days for both parties to complete the process.

We MAY be able to defer your entry to a future race if you’re sick or injured – please use the Contact Us form before the Friday lunchtime before the race to find out.

If you want to switch from the 10k to the 5k then get in touch using the Contact Us form as soon as possible. It must be before the Friday lunchtime before the race.

Start zones are not necessary as there will be an ultra wide start line, and all competitors will be very near the front.

There will be a marker at each kilometer of the 10k but no special 5k markers.

We are keen to encourage entries from all levels of runner, but this is not a walking event so we expect everyone to finish in 2 hours. If you want to run/walk the course that’s fine! If you are very near the back of the 10k, please be aware that there is a cross over point where it is possible (but very unlikely) that you may encounter the lead runners at the very front of the race coming very quickly. On the 5k, they may be coming up behind you.  If this happens, please keep to the left of the path and follow any marshal’s instructions.

Yes, feel free to do so! But please bear in mind that after the Polo Fields the course is narrow in places, and other runners may need to get past you.  There are no narrow sections on the fun run.
